Because let's face it, avocado toast is a glorified open faced sandwich. In my attempt to make an avocado rose toast I epically failed and ended up with avocado toast - it tastes the same but maybe it's not as pretty? Anywho... Open faced sandwiches, avocado toast included, are my go to when I need something to accompany my soup. They are super simple, you almost always have interesting ingredients you can experiment with, and when there is artisanal bread in the house they are THAT much more delicious.
Above are some of my open faced sandwiches I've had recently... and when I make new combinations I'll just update this post! Yay!

Need inexpensive tasty food and a good caesar? Look no further than L'Gros Luxe! L'Gros Luxe is always a great bet, especially when you crave many different foods and are willing to share with a friend. Thus a good friend of mine and I went out for girls night taking advantage of our boyfriends being out of town. So what did we eat and drink?! We both had caesars which are a highlight of any meal at the L'Gros Luxe... Just check out their instagram account (click here!). Also their menu has changed, you can now construct your own caesar. You pick your spirit of choice, the mix and the topper; great for people like me who like gin caesars and onion rings. What else did we eat that night? We shared the fried pickles and salt and pepper wings, and had our own tater tot poutines - which in the end was WAY too much food, seeing that we also had food on our drinks. Also unfortunalty, by the time we dug into our poutines the tater tots had fallen apart due to the gravy and therefore had poutine tater tot mush - still tasty though!
In all it was super delicious but missing some needed greens, which was our fault. Thus next visit I'll be going back to having some of my other L'Gros Luxe favourites: their fish tacos and watermelon salad. I will also be trying some of their other menu choices that I haven't tried before! To note, they have many different locations in Montreal. However, not all take reservations. The Sud-Ouest location, the one I visit frequently, is located near the Corona theatre and does not take reservations. Thus, if there is a show that night you may be waiting a while for a table - but trust me it's worth it! For more information on their locations and menu, please check out the button below! Also, if you go, let me know what you ate and what your thoughts are! It is so good to be back after a long (2 month!) hiatus... and looking better than ever! I really loved TBC when I started working on it this past summer after the completion of my bachelor's degree in biochemistry. I found it let me discover my love for cooking and baking more than ever before. Although cooking and baking have been the focus of the site this summer, I promise to bring more diversity to my blog posts by adding more about the beader and diy'er side of me. Having said this, beading projects as well as diy do take longer to come to fruition - so in the meantime I hope to get better pictures of my jewelry to share with you! What have I been up to the past two months during the hiatus?! Well if you follow me on instagram you may know that I have been traveling and keeping busy at home with cooking, however you might not know that I started a new degree! So after catching up and getting settled in my pursuit of a master's degree in pharmacology I am ready to revive TBC to what I believe the site should be - despite looming midterms, what seem to be never ending classes and of course my research project (which I am really excited about!!!!). So what's in store for TBC? Well for one I need to tell all of you wonderful people about my travels; especially the amazing stay at the Bath Lodge Castle and the hike up to the peak of the Faulhorn mountain - please stay tuned for that, or those, blog posts and pictures. I also need to post some new recipes (pesto sauce, open faced sandwich ideas, sausage soup, etc.), some pictures of my handmade jewelry, my adventures in tomato canning and roasted pepper freezing, and well just my adventures in general! So please please please stay tuned! Additionally I want to add a new feature to my blog besides categories and archives, and that is: QUOTES! Sometimes I feel particularly down and unlike myself and need to cheer up, get more confident and get motivated. These quotes will be those that when I read them struck a chord with me either in the moment or during my life and I hope they will be inspirational to you as well! I also invite you to send suggestions!!! The first quote is one that I believe I can achieve through my master's research; so much is not understood about cancer biology and the immune system and during my degree I plan on trying to find some missing links, but will be ecstatic to discover just one. In this regard, I believe every person who pushes the boundary of knowledge in any and all fields can create something that will last forever, furthering our understanding and appreciation of our complex universe.
Anyways! For those of you who are returning readers, thanks for holding out over the two months :) For those who are new to the site, I hope you enjoyed it and that TBC will be a blog you return to often. Lastly, for all, if you have any comments or suggestions about the site and/or about what I should write about or try please contact me! I'd love to hear from you! Thanks a bunch! :) |
